Frame Screen Mesh Installation

Required tools:

  • Stanley knife, wire cutters, scissors, or a rotary tool
  • Drill or a hole punch (can also use Stanley knife or wire cutters instead)
  • Sharpie or marker
  • Tape (optional)

The first step in installing your new frame mesh screen, is to take your printed outline (included in the kit) and place it under the lid of your cricket habitat. This outline contains the area needed to be removed, and the location of the four screw holes.

Once aligned where you want it, mark on the lid a copy of the below piece of paper. Tape can be used to secure the piece of paper underneath if needed. Don't worry, if you are like me and you're not artistically gifted, the wooden frame of the mesh will cover up any imperfections in your lines or cuts.

Using a Stanley knife, rotary tool, wire cutters or scissors, cut out the middle section of the outline. Just be aware, if you are using wire cutters or scissors, don't cut too much material at one time. Polypropylene can crack if you try to cut too much at a time. Best practice is to make small cuts to reduce the risk of cracking.

Using a drill or a hole punch (if you don’t have either of these, reuse your previous tool like a Stanley knife), create the four mounting holes.

Finally, mount the frame screen mesh on the lid and fasten using the provided lock nuts. Do not use a spanner to tighten these, doing so may break the lugs free. Instead, just hand tighten them.
